My Story
as a Dancer, Teacher, Writer, Wife, Mother, and Grandmother
I was born a mover. Determined to follow my heart, I claimed a dance theater degree and worked in the performing arts on the West and East coasts. To support my passion, I’ve taught everything from Plyometrics to Pilates.
By 2000, I was immersed in yoga teacher trainings and earned my E-RYT 500 and certified yoga therapist status. Meanwhile, I struggled with my mental health and sometimes self-medicated to feel better.
Determined to maintain control, I tried talk therapy, added somatic experiencing, and included energy healing to my self-help tools, sharing newfound knowledge with enthusiasm. As worthwhile as this knowledge was, my ongoing involvement in 12 step programs offered answers that those techniques couldn’t. I kept coming back and committed to a better way of living life.
Journaling became a part of my daily wellness routine. Eventually, I began the valuable process of mining memory and making myth. The result is Ducks Run, Horses Fly, a coming-of-age story based on my lived experience and influenced by my practice of the 12 steps. Someday, my grandchildren will read my novel and know me in a new way. Perhaps they will be inspired by my recovery and set out on a path of similar rewards.
I hope you will too.
